Creating Chapter Marks in ioGates

Create chapter marks within a video in ioGates by manually marking specific points or uploading an Avid ALE file, enhancing navigation for viewers on ShareLinks.

Streamlining Video Navigation with Chapter Marks

Chapter marks in ioGates offer a practical way to enhance video content by allowing viewers to jump directly to specific sections or chapters. This feature is particularly beneficial for long-form videos, dailies, or any content where direct access to various segments improves the viewing experience.

How to Create Chapter Marks

  1. Accessing Trimming Options:

    • In your ioGates library, select the video file you wish to work with.
    • Navigate to the "File Info" menu and select the "Trimming" submenu. This area allows you to start adding chapter marks to your video.
  2. Marking Chapters in the Video:

    • Scrub to the point in the video where you want to place the first chapter mark.
    • Click in the white box near the desired timecode and press "i" on your keyboard. You'll see the timecode appear in the "Inbox."
    • To add subsequent marks, use "n" while the video plays or is paused. This process can be repeated to mark all desired chapters throughout the video.
  3. Naming Chapter Marks:

Once you've set all your chapter marks, you can assign a unique name to each. These names help viewers understand what each chapter contains and make navigation more intuitive.
  4. Uploading Avid ALE Files:

For those working with Avid, ioGates supports uploading an Avid ALE file containing chapter marks and metadata. This method is especially useful for incorporating detailed chapter and metadata information directly from your editing workflow.
  5. Navigation Shortcuts:

To efficiently navigate through the video during the marking process, utilize the "j-k-l" and arrow keys for precise control over playback and positioning.

Enhancing Viewer Experience on ShareLinks
